Electric cars can use AC or DC motors ... If the motor is a DC motor, then you can run anything from 96 to 192 volts for an AC motor, then it is probably an AC motor runs at 240 volts AC with a package of 300 volts. DC systems are usually simpler and cheaper.

AC the whole way. The EV in the 1990s all use AC motors. In production, DC died.

Why?

AC-drive vehicle uses a simple game with 1 amazing carpet, but they require a very complex controller in all workplaces. Something has to rotate the magnetic field inside the motor, and this is done with six thyristors in the controller. Expensive. And then you need a very complex software. Once done, you can do what people want - as opposed to climb mountains and regeneration, without a gearbox.

A DC motor is very complex because it is a mechanical switch drum as a "collector", the magnetic fields that rotate in the engine (good job, something.) Switch high maintenance costs. Because it is mechanical, you only need a thyristor. BUT - can not be undone, regeneration, or climb mountains without a lot of things, and has more complications and costs.

Given the cost of silicon electronics today (and is steadily declining), AC is absolutely the way to gOr, because it brings all the complexity of the silicon and software. Silicon gets cheaper every year, and copy software for free.

Let's talk about all these features.

* Reverse Electric. In a DC motor, you need a group of mechanical switches to reverse the polarity of the circuit on the Earth. (or you can use up to 4 thyristors.) fight against the vectors that do ca "in the software.

* Regnerative Brake. In an AC motor, it's the software. In a DC motor, regeneration requires, by seeing the electric motor in reverse order to "invest" above. And besides, you have more of a thyristor.

Sepex is really cool. This is a DC motor, but uses a separate control of the thyristor exciter. The fInductor is wound with thin wire, so that he draws much less power, so that each thyristor, that the current controls may be less in the fields. This means you only need a large Thyristor (Armor) and the rest are small economies, including the Reverse / regeneration circuits. But not cheap enough to defeat the AC unit vectors. CA is still the way forward. But if you are Homebrewing, Sepex would be fun to play.

Although technically can use a DC motor is better in these types of applications for a number of reasons:

AC is at home as a CC, because better transmitted through power lines. The tensions that can carry the energy with photovoltaic electricity is ridiculously short, the higher is transmitted over long distances to get better and it can be easily converted by transformers. In the theory of AC motors is an advantage, with a brushless motor up to 30% more efficient than a DC motor and has a period of much higher speeds. This is done at the cost of expensive electronic converters and ESC.

Would win for the mass production of cheap DC motor in a capitalist economy.

The electric current is either AC - AC home and DC - DC, the batteries themselves. Both have been successfully used in electric vehicles. CA has a converter inverter used to power batteries. In other words, it battery AC DC. It would also have another motor to start the vehicle. Your choice.
